LAist Was There: Castledoor @ Spaceland, 2/22/10

Castledoor's Nate Cole, with Brandon Schwartzel and Gabe Combs in the background, addresses the capacity Spaceland crowd
"We've never been a cool band... we've been a cross between Radiohead and the Jonas Brothers, and that's not a bad thing," acknowledged Castledoor frontman Nate Cole during their set on Monday night at Spaceland. As mentioned previously, with Gabe Combs and wife Coury's imminent departure, it was the band's final show with their original sextet lineup. If there was a word to describe the atmosphere, it was bittersweet, with a spirited performance of songs off their discography -- even offering a preview of the title track from the upcoming Flashlight EP -- but leaving the admittedly predictable yet appropriate "Remember When" as the emotional finale off the table.
The setlist:
1. "Fifth Tambourine"
2. "The Birds and the Fleas"
3. "Skipping Stepping Stones"
4. "Magnetic Forces"
5. "Hidden Treasure"
6. "Dumpster Diving"
7. "Flashlight"
8. "Burn the Maps"
After the jump, the first and last songs from the show.
