Insurance Company Takes Tesla Plane Crash Too Far

When El Monte Assistant Principal Bobby Salcedo was kidnapped and later executed in Mexico during the holidays, LAist's phone rang--someone had a story idea for us. "Would you like to write a story about kidnap and ransom insurance?" a young perky voice on the other end asked? She then e-mailed over a press release about the policies. The whole thing just felt super skeezy. Pass.
Now, in the wake of a small plane crash that left three Tesla employees bound for Southern California dead, a different insurance company is at it again. "Ah yes, blame the victims," bemoaned Valleywag about the ad that says, in part: "Prudent risk management dictates that multiple executives should never travel together, be it on a private plane or commercially."
The victims were identified as Doug Bourn, 56, a senior electrical engineer who was piloting the plane, Brian Finn, 42, a senior interactive electronics manager and Andrew Ingram, 31, an electrical engineer.
