TV Junkie: The Re-Launch of the Sundance Channel
The Sundance Channel has a full slate of programming in development: from documentaries and reality television to several scripted series.
Where the Sundance Channel is really breaking out is with an impressive list of scripted programming beginning with the airing of "Carlos" this fall. "Carlos" is a miniseries based on the life of international terrorist Carlos the Jackal, and it will star Edgar Ramirez of Che and Domino. Sundance has at least 5 other scripted programs in the works which is an ambitious undertaking. With many basic cable networks creating shows that are both popular as well as critically acclaimed, Sundance seems to be stating that it's a wide open market.
Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Sundance Channel, Sarah Barnett, told us that "We have a lot of incredibly talented people who are drawn to our brand and what it stands for. Our scripted strategy at Sundance Channel is to tell these original stories while utilizing these great talents in front of and behind the camera - we want to support what they want to do."
