876 Gallons of Sewage Spill into Long Beach's Colorado Lagoon
A beach closure was ordered for Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach after hundreds of gallons of sewage spilled into it this morning. The spill occurred a couple blocks away at 3rd Street and Granada Avenue, but sewage entered the storm drain system and reached the lagoon. "The sewage discharge has been contained and crews are currently working to remove the blockage," a city advisory said. "The cause of the spill is still under investigation by Long Beach Water Department."
The lagoon will remain closed until water test results indicate safe levels of bacteria are present. Long Beach water quality information can be found by calling 562.570.4199 or visiting www.longbeach.gov/health.
