CHP to 'Enhance' Presence on Roads over Holiday Break

As we approach Christmas and New Year's Eve, the state sees an uptick in collisions. Last year during the California Highway Patrol's "Christmas Enforcement Period"--that's Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. through midnight, December 27th--there were 4,000 collisions that left 37 people dead. Among those deaths, 23 were lost in alcohol-related crashes, according to the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. In addition to this year's "Christmas Enforcement Period," the CHP will engage in a similar period around New Year's Eve from Thursday, December 31 at 6 p.m. to midnight, Sunday, January 3, 2010.
