More Swine Flu Vaccine Arrives, Now Available to General Public
Before, the only people receiving H1N1 vaccine from Los Angeles County were those who fit special criteria--such as young children, the elderly, etc--but today, public health officials announced the arrival of more shipments.
"As more H1N1 vaccine becomes available through private doctors and local community health clinics, almost anyone who wants to receive the vaccine should be able to get it," said Jonathan E. Fielding, Director of LA County Public Health. "It is important that residents take advantage of the protection that H1N1 vaccine offers, especially during the holiday season where catching the flu means missing planned celebrations or travel."
By the end of December, some retail pharmacies should be able to offer the vaccine for a small fee. Additionally, a limited number of appointments for no-cost H1N1 vaccine will be available at an LA County Public Health center for residents who do not have health insurance or a regular source of health care. To find a clinic, check out this PDF and call ahead to make sure vaccine is available.
