Winston Calling - Tonight at the Echo

The Pixies with Flea on bass instead of Kim Deal?! Followed by The Pixies with Weird Al singing instead of Black Francis? No, it’s not a horrible nightmare followed by the greatest dream ever - It’s two of the “surprises” promised at tonight’s Winston Calling benefit at the Echo.

Criminally underpriced at a mere $25 bucks, the show boasts a lineup that includes The 88, Grand Duchy, David J, Michael Penn, Tenacious D, and Black Francis & Guests. As of now, those guests include OKGO, She Wants Revenge, Love & Rockets, Pixies, Jack Black, Kim Shattuck (yay!), and the aforementioned nightmare/great dream-inducing Flea and Weird Al.

Tomorrow night, Round Two of the fundraiser focuses on comedy, and, besides Black Francis, promises appearances by Tim and Eric, Bob Odenkirk, Brian Posehn, a magic performance from Dave Lovering and more.

Organized by Frank Black Francis Thompson IV’s wife Violet, the show aims to raise money to help a friend whose child was born with “a double whammy of two extremely rare and life-threatening conditions”. More info on the condition and how you can help here and here.
