As part of a tradition that goes back to the late 1940s, President Barack Obama, along with daughters Malia and Sasha, this morning in Washington "pardoned two turkeys that are heading to Disneyland, where they will star in a parade and live out their days," reports the OC Register.

The main turkey, Courage, and its understudy, Carolina, were spared the "terrible and delicious fate" of becoming the star of any dinner table tomorrow thanks to this official pardon.

But the turkeys are actually due for some star treatment. They're going to be "in a first-class cabin of a United Airlines flight, renamed Turkey 1, and arrive tonight at Los Angeles International Airport. One turkey will be the main feature in a special Thanskgiving parade at 10 a.m. Thursday at Disneyland."

*Feel free to insert your own pun about political "turkeys" in the nation's capitol, or visitors to Disneyland in general.

Here's video of the ceremony if anyone's interested.

I actually thought The President was pretty damn funny. And to quote a certain movie line, "The colossal prick even managed to sound magnanimous." ; )

“Courage” is from my hometown (Goldsboro, NC) and needless to say, the locals are practically giddy over this.

There are lots of turkey farms in the area and you’ll always know within about half a mile whenever you’re about to pass by one.

I read the headline, scanned copy and read Malia and Sasha... ???
I then carefully re-read copy and breathed a sigh of relief.

President Obama's second holiday pardon was just announced.
