Shag's New Show 'Autumn's Come Undone' at the Corey Helford Gallery

On Friday night at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, LAist was invited to Shag's exhibit "Autumn's Come Undone" featuring new paintings and series of very limited edition giclees on canvas.

Shag's paintings depict worlds populated with men in swanky suits, geishas in cages, odd animals, curvy nude women, history, architecture, and more. One painting has two men urinating into the same giant hole that other men are diving into, in another a man and a woman are just about to have sex in a boat suspended from a fish shaped balloon, and then we found a cat eating spaghetti.

Based here in Los Angeles, Shag (Josh Agle) is a master storyteller. Friday night the gallery was filled with smiling fans, who were thoroughly entertained by the imagery. Six of the large giclees are suspended back to back by chains in the middle of the gallery space. The treasure hunt is endless: trees drip with goo, a group of men observe a giant anatomy specimen, and a blindfolded woman sits on a lounge surrounded by one eyed creatures. Whatever adventure Shag wants to take us on, we are ready.

"Autumn's Come Undone" is on view at the Corey Helford Gallery until December 9. The Corey Helford Gallery is located at 8522 Washington Boulevard in Culver City.
