The exhibit Melting Point opens today at the El Camino College Art Gallery in Torrance featuring the art of Marshall Astor, Angie Bray, Bill Brody, Richard Carter, Michael Davis, Daniel Du Plessis, Mineko Grimmer, Rebeca Mendez, Tom McMillin and George Geyer (collaboration), Margaret Pezalla, Victor Raphael, Greta Waller and Tal Yizrael. Each of the 14 Southern California artists approach “melting point” from a distinct perspective. The exhibit runs through Dec. 18.

The Art Institute of California - Hollywood is holding its first gallery exhibit in its new NoHo Arts District location featuring the photography of Ted VanCleave. Also featured will be Hope Anderson’s 15-minute video history of the Hollywood Sign from its beginnings in 1923 to the present day. An artists’ reception for Ted VanCleave: Hollywood Sign Series exhibition will be held tonight from 5-8 pm.
The Annenberg Community Beach House welcomes its first Artist in Residence, the poet Majid Naficy, who will be working at the Beach House from Nov. 23-Feb. 1. The poet fled his native Iran in 1983 following the execution of his wife in Tehran, and has been living in Venice Beach/Santa Monica since 1984. Tonight Naficy will read at 6:30 pm from a selection of his poetry on the theme of "Santa Monica."
