The East Side of Los Angeles on a Sunny Day from clark vogeler on Vimeo.
We're always moving, moving, moving here in Los Angeles, and mostly in our vehicles. Here's a look at how we move, set to soothing music by Erik Satie, and shot around Silverlake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Griffith Park and downtown by Clark Vogeler. It's your moment of zen on a sunny day on LA's east side...and for the sake of the calm nature of this video, let's not re-hash the ages-old "what's east/what's west side" debate, mmmkay? Just enjoy.

Based on the title, I thought this would be a look at places like Boyle Heights, etc. You know. Places on the Eastside. Silver Lake, etc. are not.
Sigh. It was inevitable someone would go there, despite the post begging people not to.
I'm usually the first to pile on against those that will always and pretentiously perpetuate the city's original Westside as its "eastside," but that video is genuinely lovely so instead of foaming at the mouth this time I'll just thank Lindsay for sharing it and hope that one of these days Vogeler might be inspired to take his camera across the L.A. River and bring us his excellent tilt-shift timelapse perspective of the dynamic communities of the city's true and historic Eastside.
Just out of curiosity, is there some official mandate the vague geographical term "eastside" must refer to a certain area? Just because residents of Boyle Heights, East LA, etc. refer to that area as "the eastside" doesn't mean that everyone else has to. And honestly, who cares? Regional snobbery and semantics at it's worst.
The traditional Eastside is actually east of downtown, so there's not only history but logic to its name. Los Feliz, Silver Lake, et al, have their own identity--I'm not sure why they need to appropriate some other region's label. Why don't they call themselves "South Los Angeles?" It would make as much sense.
Clearly historic, geographic, social, and cultural accuracy aren't enough of a mandate for you to stop hating "regional ignorance" over the community pride you denigrate as "regional snobbery."
Damn, chill out. All I was saying is that not everyone is aware that residents of Boyle Heights etc. is aware that they refer to their area as "The Eastside". And yes KateAnonamous, I am aware of the history. That doesn't mean that everyone else is.
I'm just sick of people jumping down other people's throat for using a really vague (and it is) and relative term like the Eastside to simply refer to a part of the city that is on the eastern portion. Is IS snobbery to assume that everyone should know everything you do, and if they don't it means they're stupid or rude. "Regional ignorance"? Do you know everything about every neighborhood in LA? If I ask you questions about where I grew up will you know all the answers?
Snobbery is pretending a region that has already been known as the Eastside for generations doesn't exist. Snobbery is a bunch of yuppies living West of downtown calling the mostly lower-income, brown people living East of the LA river snobs for not shutting up and letting themselves be nudged off the map.
Have a little more respect and consideration LAist, you do have readers from the actual Eastside you know. We're just as sick of this debate as you are.
well i liked the video, and as a former texas resident was surprised that this clark vogeler was the same clark vogeler from the toadies.
Simply beautiful! Makes you forget about "geography" altogether ;)
