The Great L.A. Walk Treks Adams & Washington Today

Today's the day: The Great L.A. Walk, organized by Mike & Maria of Franklin Avenue, departs at 9 a.m. sharp from the Shrine Auditorium in Downtown, and will take participants on a 14-mile "urban hike" all the way to the water's edge via Adams and Washington.

For this 4th annual event there have been over 300 RSVPs, which means if you're going to be in the vicinity of the walkers today as they move through the city, keep your eyes out for the enthusiastic crowd who are proof that "Nobody Walks in L.A." is baloney. The walkers can look forward to a lunch break in the Culver City area; Marked5, one of the city's favorite burgers-on-wheels eatery, will be stopping to feed the walkers, too. After the walking--which should take them about 8 hours--they'll be gathering at Baja Cantina in Venice from 4-7 to wind down and celebrate.

It's too late to sign up, but it's not too late to follow The Great L.A. Walk on Twitter to get updates from the street.

While they're tweeting, tell them to make sure they're watching out for cars.

I must join them next year.

My fiancee and I did the walk yesterday. We had a blast! Discovered some hidden treasure troves of beautiful houses like Van Buren Place and Lafayette Square. Trust me, walking all the way across LA is totally do-able...no training or athletic ability required, just be prepared to feel a little sore the next day. Everyone should sign up next year!!!
