UCLA Campus Police have arrested 8 protesters who were part of a crowd of hundreds gathered in Westwood to express dismay at possible fee hikes being discussed during the Regents meeting, reports KTLA. Those arrested allegedly "repeatedly interrupted" the meeting and were "booked for unlawful assembly." Protesters locked arms and sang "We Shall Overcome" as the officers approached the crowd.

The UC Regents are meeting this week to discuss the 2010-11 budget, and are expected to approve a plan to request $913 million in funding from the state to recoup budget losses from this year; a 32% tuition increase, however, is also on the table. As the meetings and protests continue, expect traffic delays near and around the UCLA campus in Westwood.

Update 11:34 a.m. Reports from the scene indicate the crowd is rowdy and are throwing sticks and bottles, possibly at campus police.

On UCLA campus - three helicopters circling over head are super annoying.

What about the people who were tasered and battoned at UCLA? Why are cops the victims here? Who's going to tell the other side of the story?

Working to confirm all reports regarding protester and police actions from what is a very heightened scene.
