The people of Los Angeles and L.A. County have elected themselves a hot mess. District Attorney Steve Cooley and City Attorney Carmen Trutanich--both elected by the public--believe most all medical marijuana dispensaries are illegal. That's because their interpretation of state law is that marijuana cannot be just sold to those with licenses, but distributed to members of a nonprofit collective of people who carry licenses.
That's despite L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca (also elected by the people) saying West Hollywood's rules for regulating marijuana dispensaries as a model, one that Los Angeles should follow.
Still, on the heels two L.A. City Council committees (all members are elected by the people) yesterday shooting down Trutanich's proposed marijuana ordinance, Cooley today reiterated his position, saying he will prosecute dispensaries, even if Los Angeles allows them. “What the City Council is doing is beyond meaningless and irrelevant,” he told the LA Times.

Well Steve and Carmen, after you cost L.A. taxpayers millions of dollars only to have courts and juries throw out your umpteen criminal cases against all these med mj dispensaries, and then get hit with umpteen civil cases against the city by all these med mj dispensaries...
I hope you enjoy your single terms, you won't be elected to a second one.
Ta ta buckaroos!
Heckuva job Cooley.
district attorney and city attorney were two of those offices i never paid any attention to.
you can best believe i'll be working hard to make sure these 2 are one-termers. their hubris is sickening.
This will cost the city millions in litigation. I'm positive that the law allows for recall of Trutanich. Not sure about Cooley.
Just sayin'.
Stop Wasting my Tax payer money
Go after drug dealers who sell on street corners in crime filled areas, not stores which pay taxes, pay rent, create jobs and an economy you asshole.
Go after corporations who treat their employees like slaves, hiring them at salary then expecting them to work 16 hours a day, with no benefits, and work security.
Go after the jerks who use California's "at-will" employment laws to take advantage of their employees.
Go after employers who create hostile work places so the employee quits and is ineligible for unemployment, and severance which the employer would have to pay for.
You are hired by the people for the people. the people don't care about medical marijuana. If they did, the laws of the market would prevail and the dispensaries would fail.
Do your FUCKING job, take care of the people, not your own bigotry.
Idiot.
You may want to do a little fact checking jrb. Cooley was elected to his third term as District Attorney in 2008.
Well I'm sure if he decides to follow Trutanch's cowboy approach to law enforcement, he'll be following him right out of office as well.
I wonder if Trutanich will give this up when he realizes dispensaries don't have wooden swinging double doors to push through with his pair of six-shooters slung low on his hips. What a douche.
