Street Art in the Hills

Driving "over the hill" from the Valley to Hollywood is routine for many, though, the serpentine turns and the tree canopy above make the canyon routes a nice break from the usual traffic blight of the freeways. Along one of those routes is an unusual spot for street art, but for more than a year, one street artist has unofficially claimed the spot as his, adding even more for commuters to gawk at.

This spot, north of Lookout Mountain Avenue and best viewed from southbound lanes, has been home to K74's noir-esque art work. When we first took note of the spot, it was Charlie Chaplin. Later, it was Moses. Now there is a ballerina. What's next? That's yet to be seen as K74 waits until his art is whited out before putting up a new piece.

Street artist? More like "tagger"

I wouldn't say "tagger," as that usually indicates some marking of gang or tagging crew territory. That's not to say any street artist, including K74, is doing something illegal. But that's part of the art--it's illegal, it's beautiful/cool/exciting to some and it will eventually get painted over.

This is definitely not a tag. It might be graffiti. It is certainly art.

Awesome! Good to see more articles about this.
