Earlier this morning, we showed you the video of The L.A. Wall being torn down. Now, here are photos of the art before it was destroyed in celebration of the Berlin Wall's falling 20 years ago.
The Wall Project, which brought 10-pieces of the real Berlin Wall to Wilshire Boulevard with new artwork by Berlin-based and local artists (it's still on display through Saturday, see the first two photos above) and the temporary L.A. Wall last night (the remaining photos), was mainly the product of the Culver City-based Wende Museum Cold War Archive.
L.A. Wall aritsts included Thierry Noir, Shepard Fairey, iLia Anossov, Asylm, Jaime “Vyal” Reyes, Axis, Jennifer Puno, Brigid LaBonge, Timo Fahler, Meleko Mokgosi and Judi Jensen.

Amusingly, I don't think the art on the Wilshire Wall was meant to be destroyed quite so comprehensively. After people started tearing at the flatboard panels, in the absence of any remaining "bricks," one of the Wall's stewards came running over, red-faced and horrified, ordering people to stop - far too late, I'm afraid.
