LAist Goes Shopping: The Craft and Folk Art Museum Store

It's November and that means time to start holiday shopping. Here at LAist we encourage our readers to shop local, buy items that raise money for good causes, and celebrate the great things about our city.

We went to the Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) to see the Suenos / Yume ceramics show by Dora De Larios and the Myth and Manpower: Graphics and the California Dream design exhibit. Both shows are well worth a visit to the museum. Then it was time to head into the newly rennovated Shop@CAFAM.

CAFAM's Global Merchant Yuko Makuuchi fills store space with items from local artists and unique objects from around the world. Danger Dog paintings from Nepal hang on the wall, displays of original ceramics works from local potters line many shelves, and the work of many designers fill the jewelry cases. Many of the items are also available through their online store.

This Saturday CAFAM will host Global Bazaar. The event will feature unique gifts by The Weekend Store, Sol del Sur, Balirose, Kat Johnson, Kismet, Teruko Gourneau, Yogini Designs, DistinQue.Co, Fastenations Jewelry, LU.PA, and Tyler Bender Book as well as a pottery throwing demonstration by Chad Steel and tea sampling from Bana Tea. The CAFAM store and exhibits will be open. It's a great way to start holiday shopping and support a Los Angeles cultural institution at the same time.

Craft and Folk Art Museum CAFAM is located at 5814 Wilshire Boulevard just East of Fairfax Avenue
