COMEDY
Few comics have impacted the comedy scene as much as George Carlin did. The late great comedic talent gave the world some of the most memorable comedic performances and contributions, including the famous seven dirty words routine and Jammin' in New York HBO special, amongst many others. Tonight at 8 PM, The Actor's Gang's will pay tribute to this comedy legend as part of the WTF?! Festival. Tonight's schedule includes a screening of Jammin' in New York, to be followed by a reading from Carlin's soon to be released memoirs Last Words by George's daughter, Kelly Carlin-McCall. A must see event for Carlin and comedy fans.
POETRY
Greenway Arts Alliance presents inkSlam: The Los Angeles Poetry Festival '09 at the Greenway Court Theater. The multi-day event kicks off tonight and runs through November 7th and will feature a series of workshops, performers and an invitational poetry slam featuring eight elite teams from across the nation. Festival activities will conclude on Saturday with the Final Slam battle between the poetry slam teams.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Perhaps one of the most repeated statements relating to living in L.A. deals with the subject of transportation and how it is impossible to live in the city without a car. 18th Street Arts Center hosts an exhibition that proves otherwise. Without a Car World chronicles the lives of 100 car less Angelenos through photographs by Diane Meyer and accompanying narratives. Through December 11th.
THEATRE
John Patrick Shanley's Where's My Money? continues its run at the Open Fist Theatre. Directed by Colin Walker, the dark comedy explores the lengths that men will go to for sex and further examines the limits of what women will do for money. Wednesday and Thursday shows at 8 PM, through November 19th.
