While elections locally weren't exactly a topic around town, they were nationally and the outcomes are still relevant to Los Angeles and California.

One year after Prop 8, which banned gay marriage in California, Maine faced a similar fate. After the state's assembly and governor approved gay marriage earlier this year, the voter-initiated Question 1 was placed on the ballot asking "Do you want to reject the new law that lets same-sex couples marry and allows individuals and religious groups to refuse to perform these marriages?" Question 1 passed with 53% of the vote.

In New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an ally of L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, won his third term in office by a small margin.

In Northern California, California's Lt. Governor, John Garamendi, won California's 10th congressional seat. His win keeps the seat in Democrat hands.

In a heavily Republican upstate New York congressional district, a Democrat came out as the winner. "Bill Owens beats Doug Hoffman, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh," taunted a blog post's headline in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Republican wins were found in the gubernatorial races of New Jersey and Virginia.

Wait, so if Question 1 was "Do you want to reject the law allowing gay marriage," and it passed, then they rejected gay marriage in Maine?

Yups, it faced a "a similar fate" as Prop 8.

A big shame and seems like the same tactics were used with schools being forced to teach about gay issues.
