With runaway production affecting the local economy, Los Angeles wants filming to come back home. Last month, the city council adopted a motion that brought 19 ideas to the table that would hopefully entice more local filming. One of those tasks was to identify the ten hardest places to film in. And in record time--less than a month, that's saying something for a city report--that list was just released.

Six of the ten are downtown, notes blogdowntown's Eric Richardson. He speaks to Tom Gilmore, owner of the Farmers and Merchant Bank, which is named on the list. "I find it odd that we are both one of the most filmed locations in Los Angeles and also the hardest to film location in Los Angeles," said Gilmore who believe filming happens there 80 to 150 days a year. "I find that contradictory."

The full list is below:

  • AT&T Building in Downtown Los Angeles
  • County General Hospital
  • Farmers and Merchants Bank in Downtown Los Angeles
  • Griffith Park Observatory
  • Japanese Heritage Museum
  • Library Park
  • Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Headquarters
  • Los Angeles Zoo
  • Terminal Annex in Downtown Los Angeles
  • The Hollywood Sign

The city's report can be downloaded here (.pdf).

I always thought the hardest place to film in LA was Chatsworth...zzzing!

nah, its canoga park ;-) lmao

What's the Japanese Heritage Museum? I know of no such place in LA. Is the Japanese American National Museum what this list is talking about?

It took them a month to come up with 10 locations? That seems pretty slow-moving, even for government work. For a city that's the movie capitol of the world you would think they might be able to squeeze a little more relevant information out of their survey.
