Wind Knocks Out Power for 27,000 LADWP Customers

The wind yesterday afternoon came in strong, running amok through Southland streets, making a mess of palm fronds and zapping the power our for tens of thousands.

As the winds started up in the late afternoon, police and fire officials in Santa Monica were concerned that the just-completed Guinness World Record breaking tallest ice sculpture in the world would tip over (it survived). Over in West Hollywood, two notable Southern California Edison customers--the Roxy and Rainbow Room on the Sunset Strip--lost power and were forced to close doors for the evening. Overall, about 16,000 Edison customers lost power throughout the L.A. region.

As for LADWP customers, Some 27,000 customers were without power as of 11 p.m., Tuesday night. Both Hyde Park in South L.A. and Northridge in the Valley topped the list of the several neighborhoods with outages. The full list is below:
