Drivers who commute out of the Inland Empire have the most time on their hands to fill while making long treks to their workplace, according to recent census data. "The data said the commute is almost 42 minutes for workers from Lake Elsinore. For Riverside County, the commute is 31.6 minutes," notes abc7.

For workers in other SoCal counties the numbers are high, too; "In Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, workers spend a little less than 30 minutes traveling to work. In Orange County, the average commute time is about 26 minutes."

Just since you're so particular about cities, counties, etc., Lake Elsinore is in Riverside County.

Furthermore, Lake Elsinore is also a community of around 50,000 covering less than 40 square miles, while the Inland Empire as a whole is just under 18,000,000, covering over 2,600 square miles.

So when you say "Inland Empire" instead of "Lake Elsinore" drivers suffer longest commute times in region, you might want to be more exact as to what geographical area/counties/city you're talking about. Just trying to help out a fellow stickler for geographic accuracy!

Doesn't the commute time depend on how far the destination is? If so, then it would make logical sense that commuters from the I.E. to L.A. would spend the longest on the road.

It's home to work regardless of where the work destination is. So we can't assume that all workers in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are commuting to L.A. Plus on top of miles there's congestion to consider.
