Metro this morning finally announced the long-awaited opening of the Gold Line's Eastside Extension between downtown Los Angeles to East L.A. After the traditional inaugural ride with government officials and media in tow the day before, the six-mile line will be open to the public with free rides on Sunday, November 15th.
Metro estimates that ridership will grow to 13,000 average weekday boardings.
Most of the track is above ground, but 1.7 miles go down under. When it opens, it will bring the total milage of rail in the system to 79.

The Gold line has been open for months! At least that's what the maps at the stations say : )
haha, bringing that up again, eh? hehe
You seriously need to go back to whatever small town you came from.
Yes, that's what I need to do. I need to go back to my small town because I commented on the misinformation the MTA has been providing for the past 3 months on a line that represents a 13% increase in stops and serves a population of 10 million.
Ha! I know what you mean. I only hope the stations look finished by the 1st so there is something to look forward to.
FINALLY! I can't wait to take it to Little Tokyo. I've been getting off on Civic and walking down.
I'm looking forward to checking it out.
Can anyone familiar with the area suggest some good cultural destinations close to any of the stops?
