A 2 - 0 victory over San Jose Earthquakes last night at the Home Depot Center clinched the Western Conference Title for the Galaxy for the first time since 2002.

Landon Donovan led the way for the Galaxy, first forcing a defensive error in the 'Quakes penalty area at the 24th minute that led to an own goal, then extending the lead at the 77th minute when he capitalized on a great through ball from teammate Chris Klein. Galaxy 'keeper Donovan Ricketts and his back four put in another strong performance to complement Donovan's offensive drive. It was a good team victory and comes at the appropriate moment for the Galaxy faithful. With the victory, the blue-and-gold not only earned the top spot in Western Conference, but also earned home advantage throughout the playoffs as the number one seed.

Chivas USA's seeding will be determined this afternoon when they face Houston Dynamo at the Home Depot Center. A victory by Seattle last night means the red-and-whites are currently the fourth seed in the conference and would face the Galaxy in the first round. To improve their seeding, they would need a victory over Houston this afternoon, a feat that is easier said than done, although Chivas USA has the advantage of playing at home for this, their final regular season match. At yesterday's light practice, players seemed relaxed and focused, but with a clear understanding of the gravity of the situation.

It should be an intense match, so make sure to catch it by heading down to the Home Depot Center for the 12 PM start.
