There's WeHo, NoHo, SoRo, but Will People Like NoPa?

There's a little controversy brewing up in San Francisco about the naming of neighborhoods and New York-like acronyms. One of the grittier neighborhoods called the Western Addition has been unofficially renamed by real estate agents to be called NoPa, or North of Panhadle.

Someone from the opposition, so to speak, is now putting up stickers in the neighborhood about us, yes, us Dodgers fans. SFist posted the photo above, which riled up readers.

Editor Brock Keeling explains. "The point of that post, and I am sorry for this, is that only someone on the level of a Dodgers fan (a Giants fan's worse enemy) would call it NOPA. That is to say, people HATE the term NOPA."

Ha! Say what you want, San Francisco, but your team is not in the playoffs tonight (and, yeah, our burritos are better, damnit).

And in any case, it's safe to say that many LAist readers are also not fans of these acronyms. NoHo and WeHo may generally be accepted, but old-school SaMo (Santa Monica) is still debatable, SoRo (South Robertson) and LVT (Lake View Terrace) are not widely known and SoHo (South Hollywood) and WoHi (Woodland Hills) are just a bad ideas.

Actually, the burritos in San Francisco are way better. I've been here in LA for 10 years now and can not find anything that's at least decent.

Yeah, and acronyms are for lazy people.

True, San Francisco burritos are way better...if you don't like Mexican food.
