There are some staff changes happening at the Times this week. Tina Daunt, who wrote at the paper for 20 years, is among an unknown number of people laid off. Last night, she wrote on her blog:
I had a really bad day today, and tomorrow is going to be even worse. You see, I've been a newspaper reporter for a major metropolitan paper for a lot of years now. I used to believe that newspapers could weather any storm. Now I'm not so sure. There's yet another round of layoffs, and I think my number is up this time.So I can keep dancing or give up. I think I'll put on that red tutu and try a few new steps. (Then I'll cry and take a nap.) What else can you do?
And she was right, her number was up, she announced on Facebook where a good number of friends and colleagues gave her support on her wall. "You are loved - you will find a new forum, and you will be followed," one commenter wrote over on her blog.
Nancy Sullivan, Vice President of communications at the paper, confirmed to LAist that there have been "some layoffs companywide," but could not comment beyond that. A source to Reuters said there could be as many as a few dozen layoffs, but another source said that number may be "too extreme."
Yesterday, the New York Times announced that 100 newsroom jobs will be cut.

I heard that newspapers will survive but they will be a skeleton of what they once were, local based news only with coupons inserts. Notice the two local papers in Sherman Oaks and Studio City, truly a sign of the future.
Oh yeah, I wonder if a website like LAist has anything to do with the change of print media?
It seems that everyone on staff at this website should take Tina out for dinner, ever night for a week.

Scott, are you seriously blaming LAist for the demise of the LA Times?
Actually, more LA Times downsizing will equal more trouble for LAist because there will be less stories available to regurgitate.
#3 are you serious in saying that? Hello, life ahead...... The world turns, the old go out and the new come in, like a 60 year old employee vs a 20 year old, print media vs the Internet. Think about it.
