Nats forward Charlie Davies was involved in an early morning car accident in D.C. that claimed the life of fellow passenger, Ashley J. Roberta and also caused injury to a third, yet unidentified, passenger. Davies suffered a broken leg, internal, facial and other injuries. He is currently listed in serious condition after having undergone approximately 6 hours of emergency surgery which included the insertion of a titanium rod in his leg and treatment of a lacerated bladder. The condition of the other surviving passenger and his/her injuries is not known at this time. No other vehicles or individuals were involved.
Tonight's final qualifier against Costa Rica quickly took a back seat in light of Tuesday morning's events, but regardless, the Nats will need to go out tonight and wrap up their qualifying at RFK Stadium. You can catch the match on ESPN2/Galavision at 5 PM.
My sympathies to all the families involved.

I feel guilty for asking, but I wonder if his soccer career is in jeopardy?
Not that it really matters, in the large scheme of things...
That's a perfectly valid question in light of the events, at least that's my opinion.
From what I've read/heard, his injuries would normally take about 6 - 12 months of recovery time. Even then, chances are that he won't be his old self. Pretty sad, especially considering his age.
I am curious as to the details on the third passenger. I haven't heard anything. I hope they will have a full recovery as well.
The DC fans will pay tribute to Charlie on the 9th minute tonight.
All the US fans love this kid and hurts to see this happen to him.
