Marines Investigated LAPD Officer 'For Being a Lesbian'

As Obama prepared for his big "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" speech last week, government figures released showed that women are more likely to be kicked out of military service under the policy than men. In a story, the Associated Press highlighted Julianne Sohn, who now works for the LAPD.

After serving seven months in Iraq as a reservist, she received a phone call at home. A lieutenant colonel said "she was under investigation for being a lesbian," said the AP.

Sohn was the only woman discharged from Marines last year. However, 618 other women in 2008 were discharged for their sexual orientation in other military branches.

The Pentagon will not investigate into why more women than men are dismissed from service for being gay. "If we did investigate it, we would have to ask questions, and we aren't supposed to ask any questions," a spokesperson said, which seems to contradict the 1993 policy, which states gays cannot be investigated or punished if they keep sexual orientation to themselves.

An article in the government-produced Joint Forces Quarterly concluded that “there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that unit cohesion will be negatively affected if homosexuals serve openly.”

Sohn was honorably discharged.

Another pretty strong story in the Washington Post related to the recent "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" talk: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/09/AR2009100902570.html?

I don't understand why they're spending my tax dollars investigating this when she's CLEARLY a lesbian.

This is nuts. The last thing we need to worry about is who she is dating. If she is willing to serve then let her serve.

Its the draft dodging, cant stay married, over weight. drug abusing idiots like Rush Lumbug that push agendas like this.
