Progress Slows on the Sheep Fire, Still 75% Contained

Considering yesterday's amazing progress on the Sheep Fire (a 32 to 75 percent containment jump), it's no surprise that firefighters made no progress over night on the blaze, which still stands at 7,128 acres in size.

As noted yesterday afternoon, it's been cold enough in the area of the fire that local ski resorts have been able to produce snow. The LA Times takes a look a the weather, finding record breaking temperatures on Tuesday. Wrightwood recorded a low of 24 degrees; Lake Arrowhead at 25 degrees; Lancaster at 32; 53 at LAX on Monday. All this has contributed to the large success of firefighting efforts.

Despite that, full containment is still expected no earlier than Saturday, a full week after the blaze began. About 1,800 fire personnel are still on scene, but many are expected to be released today. The fire has cost around $5.75 million.
