Sheep Fire Update: Wrightwood Mandatory Evacuations Lifted

The Forest Service lifted mandatory evacuations for the Wrightwood area at noon today. The Sheep Fire prompted around 6,000 to 8,000 people to evacuate the area near the San Bernardino National Forest on the San Gabriel Mountains.

However, many evacuations remain "in effect for both Swarthout and Lone Pine canyons, as well as Applewhite campground and picnic area in Lytle Creek, and areas east of Lytle Creek Road up to and including the Mountain Lakes RV Park," according to the Daily Bulletin.

The blaze has burned some 7,100 acres since igniting Saturday afternoon and is currently 32 percent contained. It has damaged or destroyed at least five homes, a number smaller than originally announced yesterday.
