Yesterday not only marked the last day of September, but also the last event at a vegan festival (of sorts) called 30 Days of Celebrating Being Vegan. Bakers and those with a sweet tooth gathered at 2 Headed Horse Production/Art Studio on Glendale Boulevard for the event last night, which benefited Compassion Over Killing.
About ten desserts were entered with vegan versions of Thin Mint cookies (first place) and Cadbury Eggs (second place) overwhelmingly taking eaters by surprise. A pie by Susan Asato that won first place at the Orange County Fair was voted third.
The month-long vegan celebration was also a launching off point for organizer Prabhat Gautam to start planning a vegan grocery store. Although that reality may be far off, he may join the food truck craze and add a twittering vegan truck to the mix.
