A poll released the day before Attorney General Jerry Brown announced possible gubernatorial aspirations said he would likely win if pitted against the three current Republican candidates.
Brown, a Democrat, leads Republican candidates by at least 9 percent. Conversely, candidate and current San Fransicso Mayor Gavin Newsom trails Republicans by up to 6 percent, according to the poll by Rasumussen Reports, which notes "if [he] were to win the [Democrat] nomination, the political gravity of the state would likely give him a boost in the general election." The primary will be held next year June.
Here's the poll's breakdown:
Brown (D) 45%, Poizner (R) 32%
Brown (D) 44%, Whitman (R) 35%
Brown (D) 44%, Campbell (R) 34%
Campbell (R) 42%, Newsom (D) 36%
Whitman (R) 41%, Newsom (D) 36%
Poizner (R) 40%, Newsom (D) 36%
Newsom will visit Los Angeles next week with former President Bill Clinton at his side.

I don't buy electability polls - they're based solely on name recognition. Hillary Clinton was polling as more electable than barack Obama in 2007. We all know how that one turned out. I predict that as Newsom actually gets to work running for governor, his name recognition goes up and so too will these nonsensical "electability" numbers.
Also, Jerry Brown's had his turn. More than once. I love his left liberalism and wouldn't cry if he wins, but I want new blood.
This isn't surprising given how smug and corrupt Newsom is.
Newsom has become too well knows as a self important philander who is more power-hungry than serious about fixing the states serious over spending / over taxing problems.
