It took firefighters 59 minutes to knock down a small 5-acre fire in Griffith Park this afternoon. First reported near the golf course at 3:24 p.m. by park rangers, the blaze hardly had a chance to consume dry fuels. "There was not wind, so it really didn't do much," said Greg Acevedo, LAFD spokesman. No injuries or damage to structures were reported and a cause is still pending an investigation.

It couldn't have been caused from a golfer's discarded cigarette, because smoking's not allowed on the courses. the only other logical explanation would be a coyote with a cigarette. Get the USDA on the horn and let's kill some vagrant smoking coyotes.
Smoking IS allowed on the golf courses including Wilson-Harding.
It is NOT allowed in the park.
Regardless, the fire was not started by a golfer on the course. As we reported on our Griffith Park blog, http://GriffithParkWayist,blogspot.com , it started in the brush in Powder Canyon, across the street from Wilson-Harding below Tank 76.
No cause listed yet, but someone with a cigarette is very possible and would not be unusual.
