Pencil This In: Anvil! Screens at Space15Twenty, Whittier College Hosts Writing Fest

THEATER
Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theater presents The Revolution Will Not Be Televised tonight at 8 pm. The documentary looks at the charismatic and controversial reign of Hugo Chávez, president of Venezuela, focusing on the run-up to the dramatic attempt to overthrow him in April of 2002, and the coup d'etat and the extraordinary return to power of Chávez some 48 hours later. The screening will be introduced by the film's co-executive producer, Rod Stoneman who’ll discuss the production and reception of this controversial work, in the context of the contemporary global economy of the media.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Create:Fixate and Samy’s Camera host a Canon “Explorers of Light” photography workshop tonight with photographer Nick Vedros. From 7-9 pm at the Premiere Events Center in Downtown LA, he’ll speak about ways of “Adapting and Thriving in the Current Market,” presenting a program on advertising, commercial, and personal photography by examining dozens of projects. Admission: $25.

ROCK FILM
Just in time for the DVD release, the movie on tap tonight for Amoeba’s Monday night series at Space15Twenty is Anvil! The Story of Anvil. It’s a well-crafted documentary that follows members of Canadian metal band Anvil as they try to keep rocking despite what fate throws their way. keep rocking - despite whatever setbacks come their way. The screening begins at 8 pm.

WRITER’S FEST
The 2009 Whittier College Writers Festival begins its four-day stint tonight, with guests including Adam Pava '99, TV writer and creator of Cartoon Network's Out of Jimmy's Head; three-term U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky; award-winning Indian-born author Bharati Mukherjee; and screenwriter and playwright Richard Alfieri, whose play Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. Tonight’s workshops include “Writing for TV” and at 5 pm and The Animation Process — from Script to Screen at 7:30 pm. The events are free and open to the public.

COMEDY
Celebrate the release of Greg Proop’s CD Elsewhere with Greg and friends Dana Gould and Laura Kightlinger and others tonight at 9 pm at Largo. All attendees will receive a free copy of the album. Tickets are $20.
