JetModern to Set Sights on Preservation-worthy LA Design

Seth Tinkham is a correspondent for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and he's taken a JetBlue 30-day All-You-Can-Jet Pass and a laptop on the road--or to the skies, rather--on a tour dubbed the JetModern, aimed at spotlighting modernist design treasures in major US cities. His trip concludes next week here in Los Angeles, where he will visit buildings that exemplify the modernist style that are in need of some preservationist attention.

Among Tinkham's stops will be Wednesday night's LA Conservancy ModCom kickoff event for their new program "The Sixties Turn 50," which focuses on how to preserve these local treasures that have reached their half-century mark. The free event offers an opportunity for people to celebrate, discuss, and debate the 1960s heritage of Greater Los Angeles. Tinkham's JetModern journey will come to an end on October 2nd at our Century Plaza Hotel, which was named one of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places earlier this year, much to the chagrin of the property's developers, who have hopes of taking the building down.
