Guiberson Fire 75% Contained, Increases 100 Acres in Size

The Guiberson Fire began Tuesday morning quickly moving from the Fillmore area in the Santa Clara River Valley over the Santa Susana Mountains towards Moorpark, prompting thousands of homes to be threatened and several evacuations.

So far, only one outbuilding has been destroyed and no major injuries, according to the Ventura County Star. However, nine firefighters, of the 2,750 personnel that have responded, did suffer minor injuries. It appears that the loss of avocado and citrus trees may be at a minimum, but officials will need several days to assess the burn scar.

The fire has cost government agencies an estimated $5 million, a number expected to increase as containment is currently at 75 percent after 16,500 acres have been scorched.

As of 8:00 a.m. all roads were open and all evacuations had been lifted. "The public is reminded to drive cautiously due to the presence of fire crews still working in the affected areas," said the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
