DVD Tuesday: Observe and Purchase

Observe & Report was not a great movie, but it was damned interesting to see such a subversive movie being released by a huge studio like Warner Brothers. Something tells me they didn't entirely know what they were getting. Did you love this summer's Star Trek (and who didn't?) Catch up on some of the earlier flicks today. I get that Matthew McConaughey is happy to make tripe like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, but sad to see Jennifer Garner fall into that pit. Seriously -- once you have enough money to never have to worry about money, shouldn't you, you know, do things that compel and challenge you? Just saying.

I'm ignoring the television today to focus on a rich group of exploitation pics. I don't necessarily love Clive Barker, but I love that there is a Clive Barker in this world. Shouldn't May I Have Another Gag, Please? be titled May I Have Another Gag, Please -- MASTER! Is anything more exploitative than terrifying children with hellfire and damnation via the conduit of fucking cartoons? Isn't that also sort of, you know, evil? I may not be a nylon man, but Bob has been doing quality fetish work for years. Reward his diligence with the occasional purchase of well-honed smut. Wait -- these Loose Change loons are still around?

"Observe & Report" proved once and for all Seth Rogen is incapable of carrying a film by himself. Going back to "Freaks & Geeks," he's always needed a stellar ensemble cast to bounce raunchy jokes off of.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Seth Rogen, but "Observe & Report" was just bad. "Paul Blart" was funnier, and that's not saying much.
