Master Japanese Potter Akio Nukaga at Heath Cermics Today

Last December LAist got a sneak peek into Heath LA. The new flagship store planned to bring the ceramic artsits from around the world. This weekend they are following through on that promise by showing the work of Akio Nukaga.

Today Heath Ceramics welcomes master Japanese potter Akio Nukaga for the opening of his first U.S. Tenji Sokubai (direct translation "exhibit and immediate sale"). Adam Silverman of Heath describes Akio's work as a sophisticated version of real country pottery. Akio works in the two hundred year old tradition of Kasama ware, of hand making functional pieces. This is also his first trip outside of Japan.

The show at Heath Ceramics will feature about one hundred one-of-a-kind specially made pieces including cups, bowls, teapots, serving bowls, platters and flowers vases. Prices range from $50-$300.

Akio Nukaga's Tenji Sokuba Reception: today from 5-8pm. Admission is free. RSVP to mailla@heathceramics.com (subject line :RSVP - Akio Nukaga Opening) The show will remain up until all of his pieces are sold.
