Free Pizza at Pizza Fusion in SaMo!

pizzafusion.jpg Today Pizza Fusion, a fresh, organic, and vegan-friendly pizza chain will celebrate the grand opening of its new location in Santa Monica. The chain boasts hybrid delivery cars, in-store recycling, LEED certification, wind energy offsets and organic kid's classes (Yum! They serve children? Bet that's not on the vegan menu).

What more could you want? Howzabout free beer? And food too, of course. The official grand opening of Pizza Fusion's new home at 2901 Ocean Park Blvd., Ste 123 is happening today from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Besides "food sampling from Pizza Fusion’s organic menu of pizza, sandwiches, and salads, free organic beer from New Belgium Brewing and Stone Brewing, free local, organic wine, and live music", voluntary donations collected at the event will go to Autism Speaks.

Pizza Fusion started out in Fort Lauderdale in 2006, the brainchild of college buds Michael Gordon and Vaughan Lazar, and was soon franchised. Their credo is social responsibility, from ingredients to their desire to "redefine the fast casual restaurant industry."

The menu is varied, with a few sandwiches and salads thrown into the mix. The "Very Vegan" pizza features Crimini mushrooms, roasted garlic, tomato sauce and soy cheese. "The Bruschetta", "The Farmer's Market" and "The Greek" (pictured) look exciting. They also feature one of the few build-your-own pizzas that lets you pick your own sauce as well as crust, cheese and toppings. Pizza Fusion also serves desserts, beer and wine, in addition to gluten-free pizza, brownies and beer.

The Santa Monica location is Pizza Fusion’s first Los Angeles area restaurant. Coming soon - Hollywood! It's not like we didn't warn you.

I'm really fed up with these four letter abbreviations for places in L.A. Country.

Last week I kept seeing SoRo. SoRo? South Robertson.

What's next? SoCe for South Central? DeRe for Del Rey? PlaVi for Playa Vista? MaRe for Marina del Rey? How about HoWo for Hollywood?

SaMo? The name of the place is Santa Monica. And while I'm bitching about this, SaMo sounds a lot like Sambo, which is considered insulting by some people.

So let's kindly please start using proper place names and knock of the cutsey pie, "trendy" abbreviations that annoy the people in that neighborhood and confuse everyone else.

It's like West Hollywood denizens like to say. "We don't Ho!"

Note: The pizza looks yummy by the way.

Trendy? We were saying SaMoHi in the 70's and a lady MUCH our senior told us SHE went to SaMoHi. LA County? How quaintly provincial. New York's Soho? Or London's Soho. Ask The Who.

I totally agree. I'm tired of abbreviations like this.

Stop making up stupid shortened names for places and trying to make them acceptable and commonplace!

Does it really take that much more effort to say the proper name or actually type 7 more letters?

Bye.

They've BEEN acceptable and commonplace for decades. Frisco was common in the 50's. The 1850's. Try telling a Hell's Angel you don't like the 'stupid shortened name' on his Vest

Even in a simple post offering you pizza you find something to trip on.

Locals have been calling it SaMo since I first started hanging at SaMo high in the early 1980s. So if you're gonna slam my slang, slam me for being too retro.

...and gr4dm what do those letters stand for? Did it really take that much effort to type a few more letters and give yourself a proper name?

Now just eat your damn pizza

I live in Santa Monica, and yes, we know it as SaMo - like Santa Monica High School is known as Samohi.

Thanks for the tip on this new pizza place by the way. We'll make sure to check it out.

I used to live in Santa Monica and I NEVER heard ANYONE call it SaMo.

Also, consider that people who live in West Hollywood by and large cannot stand the moniker WeHo. I completely understand why.

Honestly, we aren't New York. Why are we adopting BS names for places?

You never heard it in SaMo. Where were you hiding. Oh, I see you now remember it's been a New York thing, not just a trendy LA thing. Trendy? Google INRI or check John 19:19

pizza fusion = meh. even as a vegan, i'm not grateful for their pizza.

I've known it as SaMo for a long time, too. I can't wait until we start calling Woodland Hills, WoHi! That's fucking killer, yo! Also, Eag'ro in NELA!

(tee hee)

Anyway, this looks good, I'll reserve my judgement, quarrygirl, and let you know my thoughts. Thanks, Elise, for posting!

Everyone does it. Also heard South Pas, SGV, MePa, FiDi, NoLita, SoHo. Jump on the abbreviaton train!

I like Lobe (long beach) and la can (la canada)

Long Beach will always be the LBC so we can be down with it!

We tried their organic eggplant & fresh mozzarella pizza today: excellent. Fresh, tasty ingredients, thin crust, perfect balance between all. We ordered online, dead easy + got prompt and friendly service. Definitely a high five even if it is a little pricey. Thanks Elise for the recommendation!
