The U.S. Men's National Team took a big step towards booking a ticket to next year's World Cup in South Africa after a tough win over Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain.

The soca warriors took the game to the Yanks for long stretches during the first half last night as the Yanks looked disorganized and struggled to generate any offense. T & T nearly opened the scoring on several occasions, the closest being a shot by forward Cornell Glen, which he lobbed over the head of U.S. 'keeper Tim Howard before hitting the crossbar to stay out.

Although not dramatic, things did improve for the U.S. in the second half, at least long enough for Houston Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark to bury a blast from about 25 yards out into the back of the T & T goal at the 62nd minute. The slim advantage held through the end to give the U.S. a 1 - 0 victory and temporarily lifts the Americans to the top of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying standings. If the Yanks earn a victory in their next qualifier on October 10th against Honduras, they will have secured their ticket to South Africa with a match to spare.

With World Cup qualifying on hiatus for the next few weeks, Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan and Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein will rejoin their MLS teammates at the Home Depot Center for important matches this weekend on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Chivas USA in particular faces an extremely important challenge on Sunday against New England. In order to stay in the playoff hunt, the L.A. side has to battle it out against New England and Real Salt Lake for what is currently the final playoff spot. It is certain to be a great match.

Aside from the excitement of the competition at hand, Chivas USA has also organized a great Kids Day Out event for Sunday. The event helps bring underprivileged kids from the area to the Chivas USA match for FREE and in general, join in on the experience. Times are tough, but any bit helps and it is a great event that can benefit from any and all monetary support we can provide.

I've already made my pledge and will close the deal later today by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1. Join me and others in helping out the kids join in on the experience. Better yet, get your company involved as an official sponsor!

Such a lackluster performance against a team like T&T should have us worried. Bradley is not our guy.

I am rather indifferent to Bradley, but I really don't think he is the problem per se.

Think back, outside the last 2 games of the Confederations Cup, when was the last time the U.S. played well in an away game? The only one that comes to mind is the victory over Argentina, in Argentina, in 95 or so (I forget the exact year).

Sampson looked like a genius then, now most would put him in the same category as Sideshow Bob. Point being, these types of performances seem to have always been part of the Nats' personality regardless of the coach.

I am not sure how one corrects that, other than by playing more away games and even then, I am not sure that would help much either.

OK folks. I just got off the phone with Chivas USA and made my donation.

How about you guys/gals??
