So Orange County Assemblyman Michael Duvall (R-Yorba Linda) yesterday resigned after being caught on video telling sordid tales of his alleged affairs. Apparently, those were just stories, he said in a statement:
"I want to make it clear that my decision to resign is in no way an admission that I had an affair or affairs. My offense was engaging in inappropriate story-telling and I regret my language and choice of words. The resulting media coverage was proving to be an unneeded distraction to my colleagues and I resigned in the hope that my decision would allow them to return to the business of the state."
Really? He resigned because he was exposed for gossiping about his so-called fantasy life? Excuse us while we remain skeptical until an investigation is completed.

Zach, I know you think you're smart with how you hide your left wind ideology.
He resigned so fast because he had very little Republican support to being with. He has had tumultuous 3 years in office and has made more than his fair share of enemies in Sacramento.
When a politician has little support he/she will resign fast.
Sanford is still in office because he has support, even though high profile pols has called for his resignation.
Example, fmr LA city atny had support to stay in office but he was marginalized after his scandals.
And what does gay marriage have to with his cheating?
Duvall is a POS to begin with. And if Zach kept tabs on things instead of following the lead of other organization, he would have known that.
Instead Zach is attacking this guy for being a hypocrite, when the informed ALREADY knew he was.
I'm sure if he was a left wing hypocrite Zach wouldn't be so harsh. But then again, in the LAist world (Zach's too) only right wingers can be hypocrites.

I have to take issue with your statement.First, I think that gay marriage has to do with his cheating in a very basic sense: as a man who has consistently run on a platform of family values - and argued that gay marriage would undermine those values - it is a bit hard to swallow that this same person would undermine their family in such a grotesque and blatant manner. I think, Liberal or Conservative, you have to see that there's no room for that sort of double standard to exist.
In addition, I disagree with you that any left wing hypocrite would be treated differently. Look at the backlash when Edwards admitted to an affair a while back - an absolute fallout on both sides of the political divide, and rightfully so.
As for the idea that Zach isn't allowed to 'attack' someone just because other people knew that person was a hypocrite already, is pure nonsense. Even if it existed widely in Sacramento circles, it sure wasn't widely known to the public, which is why we're in the discussion we're in. I think there is a lot of good to be had by making a discussion out of this topic, especially if this man's constituents (or those who oppose him) were not aware of his conversations and / or actions.

It wasn't just people in Sac that knew about Duvall. Political cirlces all over the state knew.

Projecting gay issues in a matter of infedility is unrelated. he didn't cheat on his wife by being gay.
I think family value pols are snakes, but all pols are snakes. Regardless, gay and cheating are unrelated. Putting the two together is just an attempt to push gay marriage to the front again. It's a cheap trick.

You're allowed to be whatever you want, Trojan. But if your platform is specifically: "Gay marriage will ruin family values", you shouldn't be caught on tape bragging of affairs, which ALSO RUIN FAMILY VALUES. That's the connection point. If you argued that abortion or eating ice cream ruined family values and then got caught in an affair, you'd still be a hypocrite, because you'd be going against the crux of your argument. Please notice the difference between two ideas or actions being 'unrelated' when they are just placed next to each other in a comment box, and when they share a common belief thread. Unless, somehow, he doesn't think that bragging about sexual conquests ruins family values, which would just make him a whackjob.
I'm glad you feel like Duvall is a piece of crap too, but you can't deny that the VAST majority of people didn't know about his actions, because if they did it wouldn't be making the kind of noise that has. So by posting on a topic that closely relates to Southern California and our larger political climate (which in itself gets a lot of love on the site), we're just trying to give as much information to our readers as we can. We aren't an anti-Duvall blog any more than we're an anti-water main breakage or anti-Station Fire blog. We give a lot of coverage to what we think is important, and I believe that this is.
Finally, you can be pro or anti anything you want, but just know that if you take actions that go against those stances, you're going to be called a hypocrite.

I have a hard time believing that someone can't see the double standard that lies in the issue of being a champion of family values and at the same time being a cheater or liar is going to all of the sudden have some revelation that allows them to see it just because you, others or myself point it out to them. You are wasting your time if you ask me.
My only question to Trojan would be, since he was clearly aware for so long that this guy was a "POS" (to use his words), why didn't he spend his time and energy on LAist trying to out the guy? He certainly seems to find the time/energy to attack Zach and others he has convinced himself do not subscribe to his ideologies.
Since he seems to think that Zach and the rest of the group would have jumped on it like piranhas on a cow's carcass, I can only conclude that he never submitted it as a tip or bothered to mention it before because he was OK with the guy being a "POS", either because he is OK with "POS" people in general or because he is OK with "POS" people so long as they vote for things he supports.
Either way, that's equally amusing to me as is the story in focus.

A round of righteous indignation for everyone on me! Why is this surprising? A politician running around on his wife is about as predictable as a politician being hypocritical. If there are two issues in politics that are truly nonpartisan, it's infidelity and hypocrisy.
