More Photos of the Fire Truck that Sunk into the Street

It's not LADWP's job to be a special effects studio. First a flood, 3 to 4 feet high in some spots sweeping away a handful of cars, last Saturday night in Studio City and this morning a fire truck stuck half way into the ground in neighboring Valley Village (the firefighters escaped safely).

"With two water main breaks within days and within a few miles of each other, people are beginning to wonder if there is a deeper problem. Pun intended," wrote Mick Orlosky, an LAist Featured Photos contributor, in the caption of his photos (shown above) on Flickr.

Orlosky is on to something there. The Studio City flooding was caused by a pipe currently being replaced by the city, just not where it broke Saturday night. All that street construction nearby on Whitsett Avenue by the 101 freeway is the same trunkline that shifts water between the L.A. resevoir in the north valley and the Franklin Reservoir in the hills. Today's water main break is unrelated to the one in Studio City, about two and a half miles away.
