Coldwater Canyon Remains Closed after Water Main Floods Area

The rupture of a nearly 100-year-old, 62-inch city water trunkline Saturday night left the area around Coldwater Canyon and Ventura Boulevard paralyzed, flooding the streets, damaging some cars, homes and businesses with water, sometimes up to three to four feet. This morning, a handful of restoration vans sat outside businesses and street closures remain in effect.

"This is the second time this happened," said an exasperated Toros Deurdulian to the Daily News. Deurdulian owns the 76 gas station at the northeast corner of Ventura Boulevard and Coldwater Canyon Avenue and estimates he's lost $22,000 since Saturday night. "It's the same problem after 15 years. What's going on? Where is all the money that we've paid to these people?"

Coldwater Canyon Avenue is closed to traffic between Halkirk Street and Ventura Blvd. and to between Moorpark St. & Ventura Blvd., according to city officials (click here for a map).

Work on the pipe, which was already scheduled to be replaced, should be completed by Wednesday morning, followed by street repairs.
