The Station Fire, which has killed two firefighters, destroyed 64 homes and has burned through 148,258 Acres--that's 230 square miles--was determined to be arson last night. “Forensic examination has led this team effort to conclude that it was an act of arson," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore to the L.A. Times. Mile marker 29 along the Angeles Crest Highway, where investigators believe the point of origin is near, is now a crime scene.
On Wednesday, an official said the fire was human-caused, but that was retracted later the same day.
The fire is now 42% contained and today's weather will see a rise in humidity and a cooling trend, although afternoon temperatures will be in the 90s. A community meeting is set for 7 p.m. tonight in Azusa at the Azusa Senior Center (740 North Dalton Ave Azusz).

Ah HA! I knew it was arson!
The moral outrage over this being arson is absurd. This stuff was all going to burn eventually, and it was going to be bad whenever it happened, because of the way we've managed the forests, suppressing fires for decades allowing fuel to accumulate. Yeah, the jerk who lit the fire should be punished, but if there's productive outrage to be had, it should be directed at the Forest Service and BLM.
> but if there's ... outrage ..., it should be directed at the Forest Service and BLM.
Well, sort of. It's not like the Forest Service or Land Management had all the scientific facts about the necessity of seasonal burns. It wasn't that long ago that certain species of pine were determined to NEED fire to propagate.
And no, outrage over arson is not absurd.
What is absurd is that one mentally challenged individual can cause so much damage, so many millions of dollars, and such loss to families of the very people we depend on to knock down fires.
Yet as recently as yesterday I still see jackasses tossing their cigarettes out of their cars as they drive around LA. Why is there not more awareness/outrage about this outrageous behavior?
