Air Quality Alert Expands to the San Fernando Valley

As the Station Fire continues to burn, the L.A. County Department of Health expanded the air quality alert to include the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and San Gabriel Valley. "Sensitive individuals living in the West San Fernando Valley should especially take note of recommendations," a statement said. "In all areas of visible smoke or where there is an odor of smoke, all individuals are urged to be cautious and to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities," said said Jonathan E. Fielding, MD, MPH, Director of Public Health and County Health Officer. "We are also advising schools that are in session in smoke-impacted areas to suspend outside physical activities in these areas, including physical education and after-school sports, until
conditions improve." Although the above geographical locations are specific, Fielding says wind can shift the level of dust particles in the air, so everyone should always be aware of their environment.
