- "Daniel's Village", a former motel now a transitional home for young folks with mental illness opens in Santa Monica.
- A Judge has ruled that Michael Jackson's estate must pay for the extravagant memorial service.
- Even as the state has cut funding to colleges to record lows, students are enrolling in community colleges in record numbers.
- LAStreetsBlog reminds us that with heat and fire affecting air quality out here, take precautions when commuting by bike.
- Nearly 1 in 10 of California high school seniors didn't pass the exit exam. What's more telling is the achievement gap between the various races. Over 95% of Whites and Asians passed while only 87% and 81% of Latinos and Blacks passed respectively. 78% of the students that didn't pass were either Black or Latino.
- You don't need to be told that the fires out here are bad... But so bad that they can be seen from SPACE? Yikes...
- Finally... Questions questions questions. First. Who is Steve Bing? Second... When did JANE FONDA get a blog?

Jane Fonda started blogging regularly last winter, when she started rehearsals for her return to Broadway in the play, 33 Variations. A friend told me he went backstage after a performance to say hello to her and said she was in her dressing room, which was filled with friends and admirers, giving considerable time to Tweeting away.
Nutty! I dont know why I had a hard time seeing her blogging. But I looked and sure enough there it was!
Steve Bing is the father of Elizabeth Hurley's child; he claimed he was not, and essentially called her a money-grubbing slut. DNA testing proved that he was the father. DNA testing also demonstrated that he was the father of a child born to Kirk Kerkorian and his then-wife. Both instances involved high-profile lawsuits.
Later he dated Nicole Kidman.
So for him to be described as "super secretive" and "publicity-shy" seems a little odd. Maybe he is, but he doesn't seem to be very good at it.
