A new study says that Los Angeles is the number one city for sensitive guys -- in where they (we?) can be found and where that sensitive side can best be showcased.

Actually, we share the top position. The City of (Sensitive) Angels tied with San Francisco.

With six additional Golden State cities filling out the study’s top fifteen, California kicked the less-sensitive butt’s of forty nine other states. Orange County (Anaheim/Santa Ana) came in at number eight.

“I was little surprised with these results,” says former resident of both Los Angeles and San Francisco, Anna David (LAist Interview. “It takes a tough person to survive in a lot of these places.”

David’s a sex and relationship expert who has been tapped by AXE (you know, the body spray and shower gel people) to help spread the word of their study which is “to promote their new line of sensitive skin shower gels,” she said. “They went seeking out where the most sensitive men in America were.”

“LA is very much a city built on creativity,” she said. “And I do think that being in touch with those things is only going to help you access your creativity all the more. It’s such the era of the sensitive guy. Girls are into this stuff right now.”

“We’re into John Mayer and not Axl Rose.”

The Rest

The South did really bad, or really good, depending your vantage point. Nashville, Tennessee came in first of the worst.

Number three was New York City. When asked for a comment, New York told LAist: “hey, fuhgehdaboudit.”

The study was done by Sperling's “BestPlaces,” the people who do the annual rating of where’s best to live. Contributing to the results were factors which looked at were the cities best equipped to help guys tap into their softer side, because it matters to women.

Criteria included types of magazine subscriptions, abundance of cultural centers such as museums and music venues, types of retail stores, amount of sushi restaurants, and the least amount things like fishing and hunting.

LA guys are so sensitive because LA girls are so demanding.

I'm about as sensitive as a brick. But does this survey apply to us homos?

Actually now that I think about it, a lot of guys in this town are pussies - heteros and homos. So I actually buy it.

I enjoy a man who has some sensitivity. It's no fun being involved with a emotionally closed off douchebag.

Cool story, sis time:
My man and I were watching this story on the news about this big white fluffy dog that sits with kids and adults with illnesses and disabilities. The end scene was this little paralyzed girl just laying with the dog and then the story ended and I hear sniffles and then I look at him and he's fully bawling.
Ah, I love him.

Being sensitive doesn't mean you're gonna get laid.

Maybe this has to do with the PUSSIFICATION of men in general... those Hollywood types with their perfectly manicured EVERYTHING... I think being sensitive is just another word for being a coward and a sissy... LA is indeed full of those types...

I think conforming to stereotypes of what a man is makes one a coward and sissy? How do you feel about them apples?

Hit too close to home eh? ;o) Thought so, poindexter!

It's a bit of a stretch to call this a "study". It seems the methodology is arbitrary and based on stereotypes. To say that the number of sushi restaurants and the lack of fishing and hunting (Brokeback Mountain anyone) determines whether a population of people are sensitive, which I understand as being in touch with and expressing ones emotions, is completely off the mark.

Big surprise that the number one, two, and three cities happen to be huge commercial markets and it just so happens that the "study" was conducted by a commercial product manufacturer. It would be generous to even refer to this as a pseudo-study.

Wait New York City is number three? I call bullshit.

Also this is how they're judging: "Criteria included types of magazine subscriptions, abundance of cultural centers such as museums and music venues, types of retail stores, amount of sushi restaurants, and the least amount things like fishing and hunting." What the hell? Going to a rock concert is now sensitive? What if you're going to Slipknot?

Exactly. It seems like they took everything into account except actual PEOPLE.

I second that call of bullshit, Molly. Also b/c OC at #8?! Based on what, the Josh Scwartz show?

I guessing the cities at the top of the "best" list are among the most diverse cities in the country too, and this may correlate with the "sensitivity." These cities may have 'more feminine males' and 'more masculine females.' The cities on the top of the "best" list are also know for their arts, where in-the-center sexuality is known to spawn creativity—right? @ryanve

I kind of take issue with this being called a "study," but I like Anna David, so I'll let it slide.

LA's got a lot of high-maintenance bitches, but no study is needed to prove that. Just go outside and see a bitch drive a sensitive guy's BMW.
