View LAist Recession Obsession: Greatest Food Hits in a larger map
A Recession Obsession is, 1) a meal so great that it stays in your mind long after digestion's end, and, 2) plays nice with your sensitive wallet. Is there a better place than Los Angeles to eat a wide variety of amazing food that so happens to be inexpensive? Probably not. We're as lucky as we are well fed. Today, we obsess over this nine month-old column's locations. Just in case you missed something.
What's your favorite Recession Obsession? Comment Below!

The Valley is Zankou Chicken land (and Krua Thai)! Caleb, now I have two good ideas for a recession obsession post. We'll chat on IM about that.
But to answer your question posed above, my favorite was the Tandoori Tacos, even though I'm a veg. I need to check out Bay Cities, too.
I think Zankou Chicken is my #1 fav. It's a meal under $10 and it's amazing! My #2 fav would be Grand Central Market. They have the biggest pupusas I've ever seen! Along with being DELICIOUS!!!
But I still want to try the fish tacos at Ensenada.
I dont know why zankou chicken is on there. I went there the other week and for $7 it was very little food. For $8 you actually get an entire kabob plate w/lentil soup at Wahib's.
kyochon is very good but expensive, why is that a recession deal?
$10-$12 at Zankou gets me dinner and the next day's lunch. Value's not just in what you pay at the register.
From the current list, I've fallen for Tandoori Tacos and the Grand Central Market (I heartily second the pupusa recommendation!)
As for places LAist hasn't munched through yet, my current favorite is Sky's Tacos. Their daily lunch special is $3.75 for an a-maz-ing (and large) gourmet taco, rice and beans. Add $1.85 for the sorrel lemonade and it's recession obsession heaven, with outside patio dining.
Hugo's Tacos in Atwater Village! Great vegan, vegetarian, and meat-eater specials (they have $2.50 burritos on Wednesday nights). There are plenty of places to hit up in Echo Park as well, including $2 margarita nights at Barragan's.
10 dollars at border grill lunch. You get a tamale, a soda or iced tea, and an entree. Bar only.
love it or hate it titos tacos is also recession friendly.
