Officers write a citation to The Green Truck | Photo by Koga/LAist
It only took four minutes for the LAPD to show up after The Green Truck's General Manager, Bobby Allen, pulled up to the curb on Wilshire for the lunch hour. The truck's health permit, although paid for, was not on display because the LA County Health Department was late in sending out bills and permits, explained Allen. But officers would not accept a note from the Health Department that should have excused the Green Truck from being cited and shut down. The truck can only open back up for business when they have proof they paid for the permit.
"They are trying anyway to ticket us," Allen said. However, he did note that officers were extremely nice and that LA BBQ Guy across the street and Bool BBQ around the corner were left alone. "So it looks like there's some progress being made that they are not finding and citing everyone," he said.
Last Wednesday, after three months of daily designer truck glory on Wilshire Boulevard's Miracle Mile, the LAPD cracked down, citing for violations, small and large. Since then, the usual presence of trucks have dissipated and a petition from local office workers is being circulated to get them back. Some local restaurant owners (but not all) say it's not fair that the trucks park in front of the businesses.
UPDATE: Police told Bool BBQ to move. However, their new nearby location has attracted nearly 20 people who are waiting in line. LA BBQ Guy, parked on Wilshire, has stayed put since arrival for lunch.

I tracked down the India Jones truck yesterday (he got his truck out of detention and is back in business) parked on Vine Street south of Sunset, to order up those awesome looking Paratha and Potatoes with Raita. The owner told me he had all his paperwork, including health permits, insurance and licenses, when his truck was seized on Wilshire Blvd. He also believes it is only one or two of the restaurants who are complaining about the food trucks.
Speaking of the India Jones truck. It looks like they plan to coordinate with this place in Culver City tonight and serve food for their happy hour.
