Among the many mourners for Senator Edward Kennedy, who died last night at the age of 77 following a battle with brain cancer, includes members of his extended family like his niece, Maria Shriver, and her husband, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. California's first family issued a statement late last night, noting that they are "immensely saddened" by the loss of Maria's "Uncle Teddy," and that Kennedy "was the rock of our family," according to cbs2.com.
The Governor also made mention of the Democratic Senator from Massachusetts life-long causes championed while in office:
"Teddy inspired our country through his dedication to health care reform, his commitment to social justice and his devotion to a life of public service. ... Teddy taught us all that public service isn't a hobby or even an occupation, but a way of life, and his legacy will live on."The Kennedy family, and the Schwarzeneggers, are just two weeks past the death of another branch of the iconic family's tree; Shriver's mother, and Edward Kennedy's sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, passed away on August 11th, at the age of 88.

I'm so sad that this murderer has finally died!
I hope his year of sufferring from cancer was as painful as the pain he brought Mary Jo Kopechne's family.
For 40 years this SOB walked around and was treated as royalty though he killed someone!
Toast mother f'r, toast.
Yeah, forget the nearly 50 years he spent in the senate, trying to better his country. Or the roll he played in his family, acting as a second father to his many nieces and nephews. A tragic, stupid mistake that cost a woman her life 40 years ago is definitely the only thing you should talk about on the day of the man's death.
Show some class and respect.
I refuse to show class and respect to a man who murdered an innocent person.
yes, he did things that benefit many but that does not make up for the fact that he took someone's life. And it is not a mistake when he abandoned her after the accident. She could have lived!
He can rott in hell.
And if you, or anyone, chooses to ignore the fact that he killed somone and never apologized, never admitted, and never served time, and celebrate this animal, then you too can rott in hell with him.
Celebrate the SOB but don't celebrate and ignore that he did something incredibly heinous, WITHOUT paying for the crime he committed.
Wow. What did I do to you? I never said Chappaquiddick wasn't horrible, just that perhaps this isn't the time or place to harp on it. Kennedy called his lawyer after he himself escaped from a submerged, upside-down car. He also testified that he tried to swim back down and look for her 7 or 8 times. Could Kopechne have lived if the cops were called right away? Maybe. But politicians and celebrities are ALWAYS told to call their lawyers, first thing. It doesn't excuse not causing the cops right away, but for some, that's standard procedure. Plus, you know, if he WAS drunk, that also explains the stupidity of his actions. ;-)
As for getting away with it, the most he could have possibly been charged with is manslaughter. He plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. He was sentenced to two months in jail, which was suspended. He also took responsibility for the accident time and time again, stating, "I regard as indefensible that fact that I did not report the accident to the police immediately." He also possibly suffered a concussion, himself, and did make a statement that if the people of Massachusetts wanted him to resign, he would. However, Massachusetts seriously doesn't care about any kind of personal scandal in the least. See: Barney Frank, the rest of the Kennedys.
I never said it was excusable. But it was an isolated incident 40 years ago. Conservatives have had 40 years to harp on it. The day of the man's death is a disrespectful time to do so. I appreciate all Senator Kennedy did for the country, especially things like the Civil Rights Act, which he voted for, and his involvement in things like OSHA, family leave and COBRA. Not to mention, I've been reading Gothamist, where Kennedy has been compared with mass murders and psychotics, like Charles Manson.
Of course, I also found people's demonization of Michael Jackson and Robert Novak on the days of their deaths inexcusable.
Yea, it was a stupid mistake...but you can't just discount everything Ted Kennedy did throughout his political career. These are some of his best legislations, and it doesn't even cover everything. http://www.ranker.com/list/top-10-ted-kennedy-legislations/litgoddess
Back again so soon trojie?
I know. You just can't stay away can you? Deep down inside I think you must really LOVE all us liberals.
That said, I think after beating Ted Kennedy over the head about Chappaquiddick all his life, you guys might possibly give it a break in his death?
No, I knew that was too much to expect. In fact I fully I fully expected this. I was just wondering how soon.
Thanks for not disappointing me trojie!
I was certainly no fan of Ted Kennedy, his politics or his social/criminal activities. But I feel about this much the way I did about how people handled Robert Novak's death...
The man's body is barely cold and people are cheering. Show a little class folks; regardless of his politics or past actions one should show respect for his family at the very least.
Title IX was far worse than Chappaquidik
